| I'm having deja vu here.
If the card labling only states that it is a 3C589 it must be a 3C589. Not a B, C, D or Ex. If you want to know for sure, use the diagnostic program
Technically, the 3C589, 3C589B, 3C589C, 3C589D, 3CXE589D, 3CCE589E, and 3CXE589E work with the 2.00 driver.
Oh, oh, oh CmoneX, look what I found:
http://support.3com.com/software/utilities_for_dos.htm
I'm assuming that CIS is "Card Information Structure" i.e. Firmware i.e. Firmware reflash tool. |

| i just stuck the card in my laptop and the windows driver finder thing that pops up could not find a driver. Does that indicate that the card is messed up and i need to run the fixing software.

| Windows Millennium/2000/XP should have seen it and installed it instantly... something is amiss if it hasn't got it. |

| I haven't experimented with the cis file yet, only just found it.
You would be foolish to try it with it loaded in Windows, I/O while something is writing to the firmware could cause the card to keel over, and even Windows to lock up.
tjg66 if it's your PC and you have the authority to do it, just open the case up, pull the coin cell off the motherboard and trip the JP5 pin. If it's laptop and its yours call the manufacturers support team with proof and they'll unlock it for you over the phonel. |

| Laptops all have serial number based master codes, so long as you can convince the person on the on the other end of the phone that you own it and didn't steal it, they should be willing to help you. It doesn't normally cost anything either (can't speak for toshiba personally). |
