hi,

i got problems during the boot of 720degrees.

i used fdisk on a linux pc to do the partitions on the cf card (its a brand new kingston with 512mb)

i used 15mb for the first partition with fat16 on it. (its available under wince)

the remaining space was for the ext2 partition.

i put the 720degrees-sarge-r2-base.tar.bz2 and the modules-2.4.32-j720-xx.tar.bz2 extracted on the linux partition.

after this step i put linexec.exe, params.txt vmlinuz-2.4.32-j720-xx and initrd-2.4.32.gz on my fat partition.

i setup the params.txt to fit on my files.

\Storage Card\vmlinuz-2.4.32-j720-10
\Storage Card\initrd-2.4.32.gz

then i run linexec.exe

after a few seconds i got an error:

VFS: Cannot open root device "" or 00:ff
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:ff

now my question is, where can i setup this root= option?

Try adding root=/dev/hda2 on the bottom of the params.txt. But to be honest, it just sounds like you installed 720degrees all wrong - what kind of system were you using? Try knoppix, at least it is current...that version of tar you used must have been ridiculously old. You only need tar xjvf -C, if you do it as root you will not have any permission problems.

Make sure you extract the base to the card as root. It should be fine. I have only seen kernel panics from installing the base wrong.

Where interesting the lines
"cardmgr[14]: fopen(stabfile) failed: No such file or directory" - what is mean?

"EXT3-fs: unable to read superblock" - is known- is check for ext3- if linux part is ext3 formatted

Could you stop posting your problem on three different threads at the same time? All it does is irritate me. And try using forums.720degrees.net, which is devoted to 720degrees problems. This way, Factor does not get filled up with stuff it does not need.

I would need to talk to you personally to find out what is going on. I added you too my buddy list - we will see when you sign on. It looks like you and another user are having similar problems - all related to a defective compactflash reader.

I really need help about installing linux to my Jornada 720. I buy this HPC only for Linux. Well all is hard process. My CF (256) card haven't bad clusters. And CF cardreader isnt bad- Sometimes I use them for downloading foto from 1Gb CF card- and all is fine.

Today I'am using the DOS in travel, but is primitive system (If you want it, i can give DOS all /arm/mips/sh3)
