Kernel (2.4.x) Low The 2.4 branch is now abandoned due to the amount of work it would require to get it up to date for the HP machines. Further efforts will be concentrated to the 2.6 branch.
Kernel (2.6.x) --- The 2.6.x tree is fully operational and regulary updated. 680 is the only system tested but all wince > 2.11 should work fine
Base system High Base distribution Shrek is almost stable!
Keyboard Medium Keyboard currently works fine in US and Japanese layout, other keymaps need to be created or converted.
Touchscreen --- Works fine!
Sound --- Works fine!
Peripheral devices Medium Almost all PCMCIA devices works fine!
X11 --- Xserver-kdrive (frambuffer xserver ) works fine!
Opie/QTEmbedded --- Opie/QT works fine!
Power Management Medium The current kernel now supports real screen blanking, meaning the backlight turns off after a certain period. System suspend functions are not yet available. |

| I wonder if it will be better than Debian is right now...what is the color of the console text?
-I will keep working on Debian because that is just the way I am. And I would be practically done if I could just get internet acces... |

| Snappy,
Is there a thread or old post somewhere here that explains porting Linux in a CE device? For instance, the basics on how it is possible. Since we cannot upgrade the Win O/S, I take it we are talking about a emulator or something? I assume the ROM embeded CE O/S remains, so Linux must somehow run from a CF card?
The approach is not really an O\E (operating environment) method like Casio BE-300 users pull off to upgrade the 300 from Casio Win CE 2.1 to act like and run CE 3.0 pocket pc software is it?

| Bruised, yes, it's not like the be300 update where a new OE is flashed in.
me sorry now for selling my 690 It would be a great jlime box. Oh well, I know where's more. |

Wow, can't wait. I've prepared another CF card special for Jlime for my J690. It is very nice if you can highlight what is new features on Donkey release and any improvement compared to Shrek release.
Best wishes, Kristoffer! Edited by anakin 2005-08-12 6:03 PM

| well ... I finally chew bit the bullet and go with running jlime on the 680e. Bummer. Loaded up and got some errors and hang there.
btw, anyone tried it out yet, ie the RC version for 680e? 16MB ram is going to be a bit of a squeeze ... esp if one wants to run opie and stuffs. |

| Debian takes up 15.5 with just the console. But I believe that the reason for that is because it is running bash.
Well, now that internet access is just a configuration problem (yes! ), once I get an ip I could (and probably will ) change the console. |
