I'm currently making a new english language conversion for the Sig3. At the moment it's a modified version of the existing one, but it'll be a fair bit different by the time it's done.

When done, the patch will convert several things that the current one doesnt. Things like the start menu shortcuts, the time zones in the clock, odds and ends through the OS, etc. It'll also be a smaller download, and take up less space since it mostly replaces files instead of creating new ones.
Only downside is that it can't be uninstalled. Instead it needs a hard reset to restore the original language. But let's be honest, how many Sigmarion owners are going to learn japanese in the time they own the thing?

It occured to me that it would be quite easy to adapt the program for other languages at this point. Would there be interest in a german/french/spanish version of the patch?

The patch will of course be free of charge. If you want to give me money anyway I won't say no, but money's not the reason I'm doing this.

If you really really REALLY cannot wait a second longer to see the new version, and don't mind that it's not even half finished, and promise not to yell at me if it messes up your sig, you can give this beta a try. Do a hard reset, install this cab and then do a soft reset. but really, it's worth waiting for the finished version. Really.

I'm still working hard on this. The latest beta is mostly working, so I've included it here for you impatient people to play with. I know that some of you downloaded the last one, as I checked my web logs.
It would help me a lot if you posted feedback, or problems you encounter!

First, a list of changes the existing MUI pack makes:
Breaks the favorites menu
Breaks the Desktop
Breaks the SartUp folder
Somehow prevents the flash player from working
Renames the Recent folder
Replaces desktop icons with english
Installs english MUI for several programs
Sets IE's default language to english
Renames the Databases, My Computer and Recycle Bin to english

And now a list of additional changes, as of the latest beta
Sigmarion III English conversion version 4 beta 12:
http://154.20.52.43:212/sig3-mui-en-0409-Db12.cab

Comes closer to not breaking the favorites menu
Doesnt break the desktop as much, but still makes it english
Still breaks the startup folder, though I'm really trying to fix that
May or may not prevent flash player from working
Replaces start menu shortcuts with english
Replaces time zone names with english
Adds english Shortcut to Office Templates in place of japanese in My Documents
Replaces japanese Office templates with english
Replaces japanese Control Panel shortcut under My Computer with english
Replaces japanese command prompt shortcut under program files with english
Sets device name to Sigmarion and description to NTT DoCoMo Sigmarion III
Sets default IE search page to www.google.com instead of www.yahoo.co.jp
Adds english IE start page, though it doesnt work just yet
Replaces several japanese help files with english
Installs english MUI for Windows Media Player
Sets default font in WordPad to Times New Roman, instead of some japanese one
Changes My Recieved Files for MSN Messenger to english

So there you go. This isnt just some empty promise or nice idea, it's really happening. I expect to have a completed version within the next 3 days.

Since there doesnt seem to be much interest in this project...

Screenshots!
That's a screenshot of the installed Beta 13. As you can see, it's actually working quite well.
I doubt I'll put beta 13 up here, but I will post one of the next ones. Still too many bugs.

That's the idea, yes.
It's made more difficult by the fact that I have a trial of WinCE Cab manager. It only gives you so many uses, and it crashes after 10 minutes. So I have to work blind for a day getting ready, then rush as fast as I can to get it all together and fix any new proiblems within that 10 minutes. If I don't have it finished within the next 6 tries, I won't be able to finish it. And I'm not about to buy the program so I can make a single patch to give out for free...

Jax, if you need a hand with cab file building I can help. I just use cab wizard that comes with EVC, but it works.

Very interested in this!

Oh, another thing! I started writing an application to keep the japanese and english "start menu" directory in sync. If you want to include this, let me know.

Well, it's not finished because I lost interest, but because we couldn't find a way to conclusively change the Start menu directory, it kept the OS directory (Japanese characters) and a user-defineable English start menu in sync by watching for changes in both directories and replicating from one to the other.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. The location of the start menu is pretty well fixed.
BTW, the old patch created an english Desktop, Startup, Favorites and Recent folder. But due to their locations being locked in the ROM in several places, they only half worked. The desktop you see is the english desktop folder, but installed programs would add shortcuts to the (unused) japanese desktop folder. Same with startup. The english favorites folder was used by the start menu while IE used the japanese one. Etc.
My solution is to simply leave those folder names in japanese. It's not something most people will ever come in contact with anyway, and if they do, they can figure it out.
But for some reason, the favorites, startup and recent folder are still being recreated in english. I havent yet figured out what part of the patch is doing it.

sorry, I'll try to explain better.

My ability with Japanese is not great , so I can't rememebr which directory is the start menu, send to, etc. FOr that reason, I create a \windows\start menu and copy the contents into the Japanese (OS) one.

Installers create their own shortcuts in the OS directory correctly, so the application copies that to the english version, and vice versa.

Why would you need an english start menu folder? The actual start menu itsself is in english.
