I have read mention of Mobilepros in this forum. For those interested, [Usedhandhelds.com] Used Handhelds owned and operated by founder and owner of PocketPC Magazine is offering used working NEC 780s. They have blemishes on the cases from use so they are being sold for $129, instead of $299, the regular price for Used Handheld 780s.

They are advertised "as is". I asked Sambit, who runs the "store" if D.O.A is covered. He replied today that Hand Held's standard 30 day warranty applies to these units, a real buy in my opinion.

That's certainly a good deal. Another good deal on MPs is at Unityelectronics.com, who is offering the 780 for $129 and the 790 for $199. I opted for the 780 (when they had it for $119 a few weeks ago) and bought a 790 ROM from Alancomputech.com for $40. They seem to be out of 790 ROMs right now however.

Unity does charge shipping but it's reasonable. My 780 cost me $7 to ship. Unity offers a 90-day warranty, however.

My case top was scratched a bit, but the screen was pristine. (Sure beats the other way around!) ;-)

Since I used to own two Casio MIPS-based palm-sized units, and therefore have a bunch of MIPS apps already hiding out on my hard drive, the MobilePro was the better choice for me over the other "good deal" out there right now- the $119 Jornada 680e on TigerDirect.com. (Besides, as crappy as PIE 4.01 is, it's still an order of magnitude better than the 3.01 on the Jornada, and FTXBrowser is an option on HPC2000!)

The 780s are great machines. John "hurricane" Ottini used a 780 for years (may still even though he has a 900 now).

At $129... tough to beat, especially if they are covering DOA

Regards,

It'll run Windows Media Player 1.2 for H/PC's and PocketTV. However IMO Wodeon is better for MPEG and betaPlayer / PocketDivX good for AVI.

Remember that is is a CE 2.11 H/PC Pro device and not CE3.00 HPC2000.

Could be that the 660 is under powered - or CE 2.
Did you enable large buffer, highh rate and not over set the colour depth?

Thank you for the info. I never heard of unityelectronics or alancomputech.

Usedhandhelds tends to be a high side priced used PDA dealer but they are competent and very reputable. The owner of the site is the founder and owner of "Pocketpc Magazine"

He is a Mobile device hardware\ software expert and programmer. He tests and backs what he sells and the site operator Sambit is up front and answers email queries ASAP.

The site specializes in HP clamshell Handhelds, especially the pre-Jornada 680 line of handhelds.

Usedhandhelds does repairs.

I have done most of those things, exept the large buffer caused probs.

Yes the NEC 780 has a larger easier to use keyboard, for better touch-typing than a 680, also a faster processor, and more memory.
