| Hello,
I am the owner of a GV-370 from Globalsat.
This item runs WinCE 4.2 .NET
I've been trying to unlock it so I can run other 3rd party GPS apps such as TomTom or R66... I don't seem to be having much luck though.
Launch60 points to explorer.exe (explorer.exe is in the windows\folder ), and it has GV350Uti.exe at launch90. If I amend it GV350Uti.exe to read something else, it reverts back to the name GV350uti.exe upon reboot
There are folders for the flash memory and SDMMC card, along with windows plus a few others. I have also tried to put a shortcut to explorer.exe in windows\startup\, but this failed too.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Robbie. Edited by dckiwi 2007-05-24 1:43 PM

| What is the name of the flash folder?
How big is the explore.exe?
is there a way to shutdown the default gps software.
how do you access files and the registry? |

| Try this
1. Rename GV350Uti.exe to GV350Uti_org.exe
2. Download DoNothing.exe and rename it to GV350Uti.exe and paste it to folder with GV350Uti_org.exe file.
3. Soft Reset device. |

| AJenbo,
1) "Flash Storage"
2) explorer.exe = 276kb
3) Not on the device
4) Activesync/Registry Workshop
Kargul.pl - tried that, it still boots the default GPS app. After reboot, the original GV350Uti.exe is back to it's original state. It must be reloading it from somewhere....

| I think it's hard resetting. Most of these GPS devices, from what I've seen here, appear not to supply power to RAM when turned off. Every time you turn it on, it's like another hard reset. |

| Does the changes to the registry stay after a reset?
if so then place ITaskMgr as a init with a higher number then the othere there and have it be dependant on the gps software so that i will start after it, then you might be able to force it to quit. |

| Nah, registry resets too....
Is there anyway around it?

Thanks for your continued help.
I tried renaming cecmd.exe (and TRE.exe on another occasion ) as autorun.exe and dumped them into SDMMC\2577, but nothing happened when I ejected/inserted the card. I tried pasted a shortcut to explorer.exe in there and renaming it, but still no dice.
Man, this thing is locked down tight!

| Update.... I found a way to reflash the firmware:

Question, am I able to use any image now or should I only use the file they distribute.
Cheers,
Robbie. |

| obviously you can only use the image made for your device's model.
but, you can probably edit it a little so as to unlock your device... for example remove stuff that locks it down, change it, etc.... i can help with that. Edited by cmonex 2007-07-13 3:53 PM

| Thanks!!!
I downloaded the file they provide, it's in .nb0 format.
Is there a good tool I can use to crack open the nb0?

Robbie. |

| nb0 is raw format.. no need to uncompress or decrypt it. you can edit it directly. there are no fileviewers for it, you can only use tools (and a hexeditor) to modify the image itself. you can use my rom tutorial to look for details on how to edit it. just ask if you have any questions. (worst case email to contactchan at freemail.hu but it would be a good idea to keep the discussion here)
also, i recommend first just trying to flash the official image to see if it works OK.

| Thanks again cmonex,
I opened the file with ultraedit, it looks like when you run assembler. I searched for your tutorial, and came across a staggering amount of information that you have posted regarding HPC roms.
I am working my way through it and will attempt to edit my NK.nb0 file once i have my head around it. I reflashed my firmware, so the rom of their support site is legit.
Cheers,
Robbie. |
