Is this an input issue (keybaord/stylus) or a operating system issue?

Yes. The error messages vary. Such a one might say that it is unable to locate the specific program files, or another may just be a dialog box with a lot of gibbeish and gobbelty gook and an OK button at the top.

For example -- double tapping to start PocketWord does the folloing;
> Windows CE cannot locate the rescource pwd.exe

Then nothing hapens.

All the icons are replaced by the generic -- don't know / cant find icons.

that's corrupt RAM.. (not rom, because it is not writeable for that device)

do a full hard reset. leave both batteries (main and backup too) out for half an hour then put them back. if it asks you to calibrate then it was a hard reset. does that change anything?

edit: hmm, 1 question, maybe strange, but: did you have and use this hpc before? or you got it just now and it was already like that (even after hard reset)? because in that case, it could be a beta (erm, more like alpha), or uncomplete badly programmed rom - again it would be a beta device just they screwed up something or wanted quick test of something . ...and the rom is not reprogrammable. - it is probably changeable though (physically), with another ce1 compaq rom.

though, i do have some beta CE1 device, but it is perfectly usable.
