Hi all, I recently got back into the HPC world (after several years where I went back to my HP 200LX) and downloaded HPC Doom but can't get it to work.

The exe is \storage card\opt\games and the doom2.wad is in the "HPC Doom" directory but when I load the program up it says "Can't Find IWAD."

Any idea what's going on here?

There are 3 or 4 different HPC versions of HPC Doom, some even full screen.

this one seems to be the nicest I guess, but it doesnt work on my nec though.

I do not undestand; does it work now? If not, continue reading...

I was curious to see if it worked and it did. I was using doom1.wad. The only important thing was where to put the wad file. It had to be inside the "HPC Doom" directory which was on the root level e.g.:

Storage Card\HPC Doom

I ran it from my CF card.

I did get it working by putting the wad files into \storage card\hpc doom. Thanks for all the advice to the same effect.

Although it isn't very playable with the sound on and with the slow refresh rate of the 720. More of a proof of concept I suppose.

Or just inneficient and not optimized for the processor...

A 720 can run Doom very quickly, but not with that program.

I was just about to say - don't bother with it all! I loaded this up a year or so ago and deleted it within hours as just a big pointless waste of memory!
I still haven't found a really good game for my J720.
Anyone got a good one (I mean really good one?)

Chris

HPC Doom need more program memory than a simple program.
The wad file 3.88 MB, the program 429 Kb and the necessary memory program needs.Configure you memory with more space to program memory.
Games as PocketQuake run faster with less of 1 MB to storage memory and the rest to program memory on my 680 and 720.
The 680 has only 166Mhz and 16MB RAM.

HPC Doom run faster on my 680,720 and 728.

If your HPC Doom run but the game load stop try in START,RUN and find the file and add -fixvid
