I have the same Extreme CF Adapter too with a 1GB SD card that I use to install and transfer files from. I got two of these from Amazon and they work good. It works for my Casio A-20 and HP 360LX.

Btw and JFIY:
I did a soft reset on my Ericsson MC16 and it also did a hard reset.
Is it really an issue of battery power? So did it work to plug in the AC adaptor befor soft reset??

Chiming back in a bit late, I know, but I've only ever had it happen the one time with mine, and that was when I had a 5-volt card plugged in. The only thing I leave in these days when I need to soft reset is a PNY 512mb CF card.

Boy, long time no hear, SirThoreth. Welcome back.

Thanks. The last few years have been...interesting. In the calamitous, "dumpster fire floating down a flooded street" sense.
