I'm hoping that someone out there knows a bit about downgrading back from Active Sync 4.2 to 3.8. I'm trying to get my handheld to talk to my ACT databas as it used to do, before I got conned into upgrading to the latest version.
So far I've got the two computers to see each other ie they connect, but they dont' want to talk to each other. Also when I try to bring up the program on the main computer it won't open completely.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? I'd love to get this headache sorted

Hi.
I'm afraid I fell at the 5th Hurdle.
Are you still able to advise?
System would not allow me to delete the rapi.dll file. Is there a way around this?
Incidentally I made a note of other similar file extensions containing RAPI just to see if you might make head or tail of whats going on.
They are:
RAPIMGR.EXE-105F1493.pf at 85Kb
rapi.dll at 135Kb
dirapi.dll at 1456Kb
Dirapi.mch at 48Kb
THORAPI.dll at 105Kb

Uninstall all ActiveSync versions that you have, the delete it (either way you are reinstalling 3.8 here)

You may have a daemon app running which is cvalling it - phatware, softmaker etc. Try killing off tray apps and unecessary services, double check that AS is not running and try again.

Failing that, do it in safe mode.

try booting up in safe mode (hit the F8 key before the windows logo comes up) and the rapi.dll won't be loaded and should be easily deleted.

I went through the same hell some months ago...I am back to AS 3.8 because I prefer to use WIFI (less secure I guess) which is eliminated in AS 4.5 ( #@%&!!! Microsoft)

all the best
