The tide is turning... WM2003 licensing has been relaxedHandheld PC News Posted 20 years ago | News | Chris Tilley 0 comments
![]() In an editorial earlier in the year I discussed how the Pocket PC could potentially save the H/PC. The sticking point in that idea was the highly restrictive licensing regulations for Windows Mobile 2003 & the Pocket PC platform. However, Toshiba have just announced a Pocket PC device running a 480x640 display. Rotate that around 90 degrees and what do you have? the screen of a FVGA Handheld PC.
The device is flawed, in so far as the PPC applications were not designed to run at such a resolution, however for Toshiba to be on track to releasing this device. There must have been a shift in the internal thinking at Microsoft. All I will say is that tonight we are a step closer to seeing Windows Mobile 2003 on a Clamshell.
