Active Developer Focus: Bye Design SpreadCE

Let's face it, there are very few commercial software developers left in the Windows CE world from whom you can still buy software.

In the first of what I hope to be a focus on our few remaining active commercial developers, I stumbled on a pleasant surprise this week when I noticed that Bye Design Ltd. has been actively updating its SpreadCE throughout 2021.

For those who do not know, SpreadCE is Bye Design's Pocket Excel killer. A spreadsheet app that runs on CE 2.0 and higher (and now Android too) and incorporates a plethora of missing functionality from Pocket Excel - chiefly of which comes in the inclusion of support for graphing.

We last posted news of an update to SpreadCE in July 2012 with the release of version 2.05. I am pleased to say that the version number has now jumped to 3.11 - and a lot has changed.

  • SpreadCE is now fully multi-language in a single app, instead of offering separate regionalised versions
  • Improved compatibility is now available for opening and manipulating XLSX files
  • Support for OpenDocument file formats has been added
  • Support for Excel Binary (XLSB) files has been implemented
  • Improved chart layouts are available
  • A save as PDF option has been added
  • Plus as you might expect, a plethora of minor updates and bug fixes have been added to what is an incredibly well polished app
SpreadCE is shareware, with a full license costing $20 USD (£14.78 GBP, €17.66 EUD, 2308 JPY est.) with lifetime free updates being included for the price. In the absence of any of the historic (and now long gone) app purchasing websites, Bye Design is now taking orders for the Windows CE versions via PayPal.

We encourage you to check out the shareware trial of SpreadCE for CE 2.0, H/PC Pro, HPC2000 and CE .net and higher for SH3, SH4, MIPS, ARM and x86 devices and if you find it useful, please do support our few remaining developers by purchasing a license!

The save as PDF sounds good and worth the $20 IMHO.

Agreed, it is certainly packing quite the punch on the value score.
