This week spells the 12th birthday of the venerable Windows CE platform which reached the RTM of the Pegasus platform way back in 1996.

So raise your glass to the past - and the future of the Handheld PC, Windows CE and Microsoft's inaugural embedded platform environment and remember fondly the past 12 years of this community.

I raise my glass to Windows CE, but not to CE 1.0

Why not? That's what started it all. Remember the first Windows CE devices were Handheld PCs. Now Windows CE is everywhere, and it's growing. Let's not forget the form factor that made it all possible.

Yeah .... maybe CE Geek. I was just thinking about the actual operating system, and remembering the monochrome only screens, and despairing. CE is much better with colour

Well, i would never buy a Handheld PC with a monochrome black-and-white screen because those are useless. Sadly though, most early Handheld PC's had to have monochrome screens because of battery problems.

Oh, I dunno - even my old Casio A-10 is pretty handy.

Yeah, only word processing and occasional games ... and spreadsheets. None of those would suit internet browsing or viewing videos, or music, which is at the moment what i'm looking for.
