In a milestone more significant for our American visitors, that some other parts of the world. Windows CE has turned 21 this week. Originally debuting at the 1996 Computer Dealers' Exhibition (Comdex) in Las Vegas. Microsoft played with the formula through the Handheld PC, Palm-size PC, Pocket PC, Smartphone and purely enterprise embedded appliance paradigms before abandoning the code base entirely after the release of (what would have technically been) Windows CE 8.0 in June 2013.

Hopefully someone in Microsoft has noted the occasion this week, perhaps even a silent tribute has been raised to our fallen friend?

21 years later, you're still here, reading this. So it must still count for something, even if there isn't much else going on in the Windows CE community in 2017.

Happy Birthday Windows Pegasus.

It's crazy to think WinCE has been around for 21 years... Heck, it feels like just yesterday I was browsing Office Depot's isle for PDA's. Time sure flies fast, which is why it's great to whip out your old PDA once in a while and remember "the good old days".

Thankfully, the clamshell ultra portable form factor is making a comeback. So sick and tired of all these tablets.

I was always told the years will go faster the older I get. These past few years were a blur! Especially this year! My daughter will be 9 next year. What happened?

I remember acquiring a Casio A-11 with Windows CE 1.0 back in Spring 1997, still being a high school student back then. Shortly after, I bought the update pack for it, addin another whopping 2 MB ofm emory to it (for a total of 6 MB) and Windows CE 2.0.
That is now 22 years ago, and I still have the A-11. Moreover, it is still functional.
