Security Appeal

Handheld PC News

Posted 21 years ago | News | Chris Tilley 0 comments

A Sammy mentioned over on Handheld Addict earlier today. There is a new Windows virus on the loose causing mayhem. Unfortunately, a raft of problems have all emerged at once, all with serious exploits, all with serious consequences if your not patched up.

I believe that safe Handheld PC use goes hand in hand with safe desktop use, hence our focus recently on patching for the HPC and for Host systems. As webmasters we have publicly exposed e-mail addresses and these are easily picked up by these viruses, and as such its safe to assume that all Community webmasters have received these recent viruses. I know I have.
As a result I would like to appeal to all community users to ensure that you are properly patched up by doing the following:

  1. Install the Latest version of Internet Explorer for your System (Whether or not you use it!)

  2. Patch Internet Explorer with the latest update

  3. Install the MS Blast Security Patch

  4. Install the Critical DirectX Update or DirectX 9.0b (NT 4.0 click here)

  5. If you are using Windows 95 or NT 4, Outlook 98 or MS Office go through our security guides

  6. Visit Windows Update, Get a virus Scanner, Get a firewall

If you are in a company please contact your IT department immediately. If your IT department are taking no action over this..
Thanks; HPC Factor team
