Intel has revealed plans for it's next generation mobile device processor. The new XScale chip, based on the StrongArm chip and codenamed Bulverde will be released in early 2004.

The improved XScale chip has been developed with Games and improved power management in mind. Bulverde will include Intel Speedstep technology - which regulates the CPU speed and voltage on the fly, based on the task at hand - improving the battery performance of mobile devices at a time when traditional battery technologies are struggling to offer any improvement in performance.

Intel believes portable game devices, including phones are the future. Bulverde will be the most powerful XScale processor to date. While no plans have been announced to release a Handheld PC device running on the new XScale, what better platform could there be for the future of the arcade on a truly expandable mobile device.
