Refurbished Jornada 680e ConfusionHandheld PC News Posted 18 years ago | News | Chris Tilley 0 comments
There appears to be a high level of confusion currently over the large number of refurbished hp Jornada 680e HVGA Handheld PC's which are being listed on eBay or sold through redistributes such as TigerDirect.
The Jornada 680 range was released in the summer of 1999, running Windows CE 2.11 based Handheld PC 3.01 Professional. The Jornada 680e differs from the standard 680 in that it lacks the integrated modem - usually. In this case, devices which are appearing at discounted prices on eBay and from TigerDirect are based around the 680e. Unusually they differ from the base specification 680e in that they were assembled as part of a bulk order from Dutch Railways. The devices have a modified base plate which removes the access to the CF Card Slot compartment beneath the device. The refurbished devices also lack the external record / track skip buttons on the front side. This is not made clear on most of the auctions which HPC:Factor have looked at or from the retail suppliers. Users should also be aware that this is a 1999 device. hp pulled out of the Jornada range in 2002 and are No Longer obligated to provide support or spares as the maximum warranty on the device on release was 3 years RTB. Again contrary to some information which has been given out, the devices cannot be upgraded to run Windows CE 3.0 / HPC2000, nor any subsequent Windows CE release. Anyone seeking more information should make use of the HPC:Factor forum. View: The Forum Posted on 25 February 2005 at 00:00By Chris Tilley (C:Amie)
