Hardware Compatibility List v4.10Handheld PC News Posted 15 years ago | Announcement | Chris Tilley 3 comments
![]() HPC:Factor is pleased to announce another significant change in our continuing work to bring the Windows CE community the best resources available on-line for their mobile life.
Tonight we unveil a set of changes to the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) here on HPC:Factor, which has brought Handheld PC and Windows CE users together with hardware compatibility data, information and drivers for a broad range of peripheral equipment for well over 6 years. Version 4.10 of the HCL expands the way that registered community members can interact with the existing information stored in the HCL databases in two ways. Firstly, users can now participate with the HCL by telling the system details of their experiences with particular hardware devices by specifying whether they have been successful or not in getting any given piece of hardware working in conjunction with their Handheld PC device. Secondly, registered users can rate the hardware device on a 5 point scale - just like HPC:Factor reviews. This rating is then averaged and displayed to everyone and is based entirely upon collective user feedback, not the opinion of a single individual! All this is displayed on the newly redesigned Hardware Compatibility Data (HCD) viewer, which long-term users of the HCL will be please to hear now includes details of the registered community members who sent in their hardware experiences through the HCL Submission System. HCL v4.10 is provided by HPC:Factor as a free service to the wider Windows CE community, and while registration with the site shall be required before users can participate in voting, viewing the information contained within the HCL's ever expanding database will remain open to everyone. Comments on this articleI can see that wireless Netgear MA401 card is still on the list as compatible with CE 3.0 and 4.2. I haven't had success with that card on Mobilepro 900 and I've heard of at least two more people with same problems. But, in spite of starting several threads regarding this problem, I see it's still on the list. |
Hopefully this will encourage more people to get involved in contributing towards the HCL, and will make the quality and quantity of listings even better!
