5 Years is a long time in TechnologyHandheld PC News Posted 15 years ago | Community | Chris Tilley 9 comments
![]() 5 Years really is a long time in technology. 5 years ago we were in the final month in the life of Windows CE .net 4.1, Windows Mobile was a day dream inside Microsoft Mobile's marketing department and if Intel's Gordon E. Moore's famous constant is to stand true then processors must have become between 2.5 and 3.33 times faster since March 2003!
5 years later we have Windows Embedded CE 6.0, with 7.0 bubbling away in the Redmond caldron, Windows Mobile is now all encompassing and yes, indeed we are seeing processors 2.5 times faster than they were 5 years ago! As if all that was not mind boggling enough. 5 years ago on this day a small, newly renamed website popped onto your screens for the first time - this website in fact. This day marks the 5th year of HPC:Factor, and our 9th year of bringing the community legacy Windows CE content. It makes us especially proud to still be here on the net after all this time, and that there is still a loyal, niche community out there interested in the site and the platform in general. So whether you are an old member, or a new one, we hope that you will celebrate with us and continue to visit us now and into the future. Happy birthday HPC:Factor! Comments on this articleAmazing how times flies when you are having fun! Thanks to everyone for their continued support of the site. Without you we wouldn't be here. A huge thank you go to C:AMIE for all his hard work on the site day in and day out. Salut! to 5 year of 99.9999% uptime...oh wait..errr... ;p Congrats to all but especially to Chris for his tireless dedication. - Insurgent Congratulations to everyone who make this website what it is. I thank you for taking the time to make sure users like myself have the help and support for our aging products. Thank you HPC:Factor, and Happy Birthday! I'm honored to be a part of the team that keeps this site going. It's been both enlightening and encouraging for an old gadget freak like myself. But no one deserves more credit that C:Amie, who has built this site into a giant in the mobile device community, and continues to work tirelessly to maintain and constantly improve the site - no easy task when one considers that HPC:Factor has for some time been one of the best-designed Web sites one can find. Thanks to the team and members who keep this site alive. I am confident that the site will live for many years to come as our CE devices do. Good Lord.....is this site still around? I thought it dead with the Handheld PC 5 years ago! Ha, Ha just kidding - where would we be without Chris Tilley's HPC:Factor website...here's to another 5 years of great information and conversation! Happy birthday to HPC:Factor, and many happy returns! Thanks for giving my HPCs a new lease of life, and to the admins, mods and general members of HPC:Factor who make this place a pleasure to keep coming back to, for the CE stuff... and beyond! |
