30pin.com's Yuri Litvinenko has just published an article in which he takes a reflective view of the addled history of Windows CE across the last 24 years.

In discussion with various players from within Microsoft, including Brad Silverberg, Microsoft’s then Senior VP of Personal Systems, Harel Kodesh, Microsoft’s former VP of Consumer Appliances as well as HPC:Factor's own Chris Tilley. Yuri explores with those who have known CE the longest - and have been been best placed to observe Windows CE's rise and fall - what Microsoft's ever changing strategy was at different times before its ultimate demise in the 2010's, as well as what they believe that Microsoft got right, as well as where it went wrong for the embedded operating system.

Yuri concludes by outlining whether Microsoft is destined to repeat history with modern desktop Windows in the face of a rapidly changing consumer electronics paradigm and threats to the Microsoft/Intel status quo.

Great article, reminds me of that book The Soul of a New Machine getting a little peek at all the business decisions shaping CE and what it all lead to.

Nice to see our own C:Amie in print elsewhere. The author did a very fine job providing an overview of CE's history while weaving in the factors of competition and MS's epic indecision.
