Puzzle Express Solpack Deluxe 1.0

John Ottini | Handheld PC Reviews
October 18, 2002

Solpack Deluxe by Tracker Software contains 30 solitaire card games that will challenge, entertain and sometimes frustrate you into playing much longer (and later) than you had intended. The card games include (in alphabetical order) are: Aces Square, Auld Lang Syne, Auld Lang Syne (Easier), Baccarat, Black Hole, Block Ten, Captive Queens, Carpet, Clock, Criss Cross, Doublets, Eagle Wing, Egyptian Pyramid, Five Piles, Fourteen Out, Free Cell, Golf, King's Audience, Monte Carlo, Monte Carlo 13, Pairs, Pyramid, Pyramid Golf, Sir Tommy, Suits, Thirteens, Triangle, Twenty-One, Vanishing Cross and Vertical.

My personal favorites are Aces Square and Auld Lang Syne, which I’m beginning to believe, is more difficult to win than the State lottery!

The user interface is pretty straight forward (Figure 1) allowing you to select the game you wish to play or perhaps read the Rules to refresh you memory before you actually begin playing.

Once you start each card game you have a number options you can set to personalize your playing environment.

  • Change the screen background color.
  • Keep Statistics: The software keeps track of the number of games played, number of games won and tabulates your average and highest scores for each game.
  • Play a New hand of cards or Reply the same hand (your choice).

The Help files are well written and always readily available and the Rules for each game are written in an economical, yet surprisingly understandable way.

Setting up and uninstalling the software is relatively painless…. just follow the screen prompts and the software does the rest. There is no mention about the possibility of installing the software to a CF card, so perhaps it’s best that you contact the developer to verify that it is indeed safe to do so.

Solpack Deluxe runs on all Handheld PC’s running HPC Pro - Windows CE 2.11 such as the Jornada 680 - and HPC 2000 - Windows CE 3.0 such as the Jornada 720/728 and the NEC MobilePro 790.
