vxUtil 2.1.3

vxUtil is a suite of network/internet (IP) utilities that allow you to perform network related trouble-shooting and other functions.
Category(s):
You must be registered and logged into HPC:Factor in order to contribute to the SCL.

Description

vxUtil is a suite of network/internet (IP) utilities. These utilities allow you to perform network related trouble-shooting and other functions.
There is no need to carry a laptop to remote locations or in a cramp wiring closet.

IP Utilities include:

DNS Audit
DNS Audit can help you locate DNS database errors.
DNS Audit will scan a range of IP addresses and perform a reverse DNS lookup for each address. If it receives a DNS response for an address, it will then do a forward DNS lookup and verify that the forward and reverse DNS records match.
DNS Lookup
You can use Lookup to obtain information on host names and IP addresses.
Finger
You can use Finger to obtain information about a user or host (if supported on the remote host).
The Finger tool lets you identify and display information about all users on a network host. This information includes a display of current users on the host (their userids and usernames). Also displayed for each user are the home directory, login time, idle times, office location, the last time they received mail, and the last time they read mail. (long format)
A Finger request will also display any information contained in the .plan or the .project file in the user's home directory. These files are often used as a simple way to distribute information.
Get HTML
You can use the Get HTML utility to help you efficiently debug your Web site.
Get HTML sends a get request to a specified web address (URL) and returns full header information as well as the page data.
Info
This function gets the current IP address and pertinent information for each adapter.
Information includes:
IP Address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
Primary DNS
Secondary DNS
Primary WINS
Secondary WINS
DHCP Server
Lease Obtained
Lease Expires
IP Subnet Calculator
This subnet calculator gives you a complete list of information concerning an IP address and Subnet Mask, including the Network and Host address size.
Password Generator
Password Generator allows you to create random passwords using a variety of algorithms.
You can specify various password lengths and also optionally use the old password to enhance the encryption.
Ping
The Ping utility is used to verify connectivity to a particular system on your network. Ping sends an ICMP "echo request" in the form of a data packet to a remote host and displays the results for each "reply." In essence, the Ping tool asks "Are you there?," and waits for a response.
The Ping sends one packet per x seconds (the delay) and prints one line of output for every response received. When Ping terminates, it displays a brief summary of packet loss statistics. Round trip times indicate the time (in milliseconds) it takes for the packet to get to the remote host and a response to arrive back. This time will vary depending on network load.
You can use Ping to:
Ping a remote host to verify that the network connection is up.
Ping a remote host and view the round-trip times times to determine the current speed of the network connection.
Ping systems along a route to isolate a hardware or software problem
Ping Sweep
The Ping Sweep utility can scan a range of IP addresses and show which IP addresses are in use and which ones are not.
Ping Sweep can also look up the DNS name for each IP address.
Ping Sweep can scan responding and/or non-responding IP addresses. This feature is handy in determining which IP addresses are in use.
Port Scanner
You can use Port Scanner to scan your network and list devices.
The Port Scanner utility scans for devices in your network and lists them in the results window.
Port Scanner can identify the network services (such as FTP, HTTP, SMTP) that are available on each system.
Quote
You can use Quote to view quotations from a Quote server.
The Quote utility lets you view information on a remote host that supports a Quote server. Quote servers often display a "quote of the day".
Time Service
Time Service lets you synchronize your local system's clock with the clock of a remote time server. Typically remote time servers provide a constantly updated time of day reading (in hours, minutes, and seconds) and the date (year, month, day).
Trace Route
You can use Trace Route to trace the path to a network host or device.
The Trace Route utility shows you the network path used to reach a specified TCP/IP address.
Trace route is useful for finding potential trouble spots on large and complex networks that are connected together with routers.
Wake On LAN
Wake On LAN sends a Magic Packet to remotely wake up a sleeping or powered off PC on a network.
This is accomplished by sending a specific packet of information, called a Magic Packet frame, to a node on the network. When a PC capable of receiving the specific frame goes to sleep, it will enable the Magic Packet mode in the LAN controller, and when the LAN controller receives a Magic Packet frame, it will alert the system to wake up.
Whois
You can use Whois to obtain information on names from the Network Information Center.
Whois provides information about who owns an Internet host or domain and who you can contact regarding that host or domain. A Whois request displays a contact name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address for all users and organizations who are registered with one of the official Whois servers, such as the Network Information Center (NIC) database.

Additional features:

Scripting - Use scripting to automate the following functions:
Minimize vxUtil
Make a RAS connection (RasDial)
Log the results of commands to a user specified file
TimeStamp the results
DNSAudit, Ping, PingSweep, PortScan, TimeSync, TraceRt, WakeOnLAN
Disconnect a RAS session (RasHangUp)
Pause for user specified time-frame
Restart the scripting process
Quit the application
Backup and Restore
Portrait and Landcape Screen Orientation
Customization - We can customize vxUtil to meet your corporate needs

vxUtil operates on all Windows CE-based Handheld Pro, Pocket PCs and Windows Mobile and requires Windows CE 2.11 (or later).
