"DeIsL1.isu cannot be found" when you attempt to uninstall Windows CE Services

Overview

When you attempt to uninstall Windows CE Services version 2.x you may receive the following error message:

DeIsL1.isu cannot be found. Installation cannot continue

The uninstallation process will terminate and you will not be able to uninstall or upgrade Windows CE Services.

Solution

This error can occur if the installation log DeIsL1.isu has been damaged or deleted from your system. To resolve this issue:

Check for corrupt files and folders on your computer

On Windows 95, 98, 98SE and Millennium

  1. Click Start
  2. Select Programs > Accessories > System Tools
  3. Run Scan Disk
  4. Select the Hard Disk where Windows is installed to (Usually C:)
  5. Select standard from the scan type list and click start to begin

For Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP, 2003

  1. Click Start
  2. Select Run
  3. Type the following command (Where C: is the drive where Windows is installed):
    chkdsk c: /f /r
  4. Click OK
  5. A command prompt will be displayed asking you if CHKDSK should run the next time your computer is rebooted. Press Y to accept
  6. Reboot your computer

Once the Scan Disk / Check Disk has completed, attempt to uninstall Windows CE Services. If it fails proceed to the next step.

Reinstall Windows CE Services 2.2

  1. Download Windows CE Services 2.2 from HPC:Factor
  2. Run the Windows CE Services installer once again, complete the installation and reboot your computer
  3. Do not attempt to connect your mobile device to your computer at this point
  4. Use Add / Remove Programs (Add or Remove Programs) in Control Panel to uninstall Windows CE Services 2.2 from your computer.
  5. Reboot your computer

Check C:\Program Files\Windows CE Services has been removed from your computer.
