Overview

An 'Easter Egg' is a hidden feature of a software application that is hidden by the developers intentionally. Easter Eggs often are used to display the names of the programs creative team and software architects, in the same manner that motion pictures have ending credits. Some times they are purely entertaining with jokes and even hidden games.

This document describes a the Easter Egg discovered by HPC:Factor in the various versions of ActiveSync 3.x. 

How-to Guide

Part of the humour involved in Easter Eggs is often aimed specifically at the development team who worked on the program. In order to understand the symbolism used in the ActiveSync Easter Eggs you should familiarise yourself with the History of Microsoft ActiveSync outlined in the HPC:Factor ActiveSync overview.

ActiveSync 3.0, 3.1

You must have ActiveSync 3.0 or 3.1 as well as Microsoft Internet Explorer (with the Active Desktop Shell Update if using 95 or NT4.0) installed.

NB: This assumes that ActiveSync has been installed to c:\program files\microsoft activesync\

Development Team 'Patch' Easter Egg:

1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer
2. In the Address bar type:
   res://c:\program%20files\Microsoft%20activesync\wcesmgr.exe/userdata.gif
3. Press Enter to load the Easter Egg
