BVRP PhoneManager displays SMS date as 1900

hp Jornada Handheld PC 680, 680e 690, 690e,820 and 820e shipped with BVRP Trio PhoneManager on the software CD. When using the PhoneManager 2.0 application on your Jornada. SMS messages may be displayed as 1900 instead of 2000.

The date problem is caused by the way in which PhoneManager 2.0 handles dates. The version shipped with hp Jornada devices uses 2 digit date codes instead of the Year 2000 compliant 4 digit codes.
The issue is native only to how PhoneManager displays information on SMS messages and does not affect the sending or receiving of SMS messages, nor the Jornada H/PC device.

Resolution

BVRP released patches to address the issue in 1999. References to the updates have been subsequently removed from the BVRP and hp Jornada web sites. HPC:Factor has made the patches available from the CESD download centre.

Use of the patch depends on an existing installation of PhoneManager be present on the Jornada device. The updates are specifically for hp Jornada Handheld PC devices and are ROM language dependant. Ensure that you choose the correct patch to match your Handheld PC's ROM.
The patch file will update the BVRP PhoneManager program to version 2.11 which is certified Year 2000 compliant. A certificate of compliance was issued by BVRP following the updates release.

Upon completion of the Patch installation soft reset your Handheld PC.
