Windows Millennium Edition Patches & Updates GuideCESD|200238Windows Millennium currently retains active updates through the Windows Update Service. This information on this page is designed to be a reference for what updates are needed for the operating system. It is essentially the HPC:Factor recommended updates procedure for using your Handheld PC in conjunction with Windows Millennium Edition. Support for Windows Millennium was originally supposed to end in December 2003. In January 2004 Microsoft announced that it would extend the pay-per incident support for Windows Millennium until June 2006. This means that while Windows Millennium Edition will be regarded as a defunct operating system, work for continuing support for other Microsoft technologies under Windows ME will continue, as will corporate level patching. Whether or not any future patches will be released to the consumer is another matter. We recommend that if possible you upgrade your computer to Windows 2000 or Windows XP. However if you must use Windows Millennium, we recommend that you minimise any network shares that you setup on the computer and run current Anti-Virus and Firewall software. Do not serve any information to the Internet from your system, such as using Personal Web Server to host a web site.
