Hewlett Packard Handheld PC hardware use a three digit alphanumeric code as part of the model number to identify the pre-configured Keyboard layout / ROM.

When purchasing a Hewlett Packard Handheld PC it is important that you know the region code of the device. Any Handheld PC manufactured by hp during or after 1998 conforms to the region codes outlined below. Any Hewlett Packard Hardware equipment which included a Keyboard or region specific functionality includes an identification tag to allow support personnel to ascertain the specific device involved. In the case of Handheld PC devices the code also identifies the base ROM language.

For example. A Jornada 680 who's model number on the base plate matches:
F1262A ABA

Is an original release Jornada 680 with a US English keyboard.
