Overview

This article provides information on a registry modification that will disable the resume on-touch feature of the ePlate HPW-600.

More Info

The Hitachi ePlate HPW-600 has a touch screen wake up feature that is enabled by default. This can be problematic when placing the device in a protective case, when the interior of the case itself can touch the screen repeatedly and wake the device over and over, quickly running down a fully-charged battery pack.

Unfortunately, however, the ePlate does not provide any controls for disabling this feature. Consequently, disabling this feature requires a registry edit.

WARNING: If you use a Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to hard reset your Handheld PC back to its factory installed configuration. Edit your Windows CE registry at your own risk.
  1. Using a registry editor, navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\OEM
  2. Find the value
    InhibitTouchOn
  3. The value will show as 0 (either decimal or hexadecimal), the default for enabling wake on touch. To disable wake on touch, change the value to:
    1
  4. Close the registry editor and soft reset the device

There is no dedicated power switch on the ePlate; however, you can power on the device by pressing and immediately releasing the Voice Recorder button along the lower right edge of the device. (Holding the button in for a full second opens the Voice Recorder application.) To power off, touch the "Power" hard icon along the top of the screen on the left-hand side.
