Download the Patches from our Patches & Updates Guides

If you have a legacy operating system or office release and are looking to download all of the officially available updates, in their original, unmodified formats. The we appreciate that it can be a problem getting hold of the download binaries for some of the older patches.

Unfortunately, due to demand and rampant abuse, HPC:Factor stopped providing public downloads of Internet Explorer in 2009. The simple fact was it was costing us a lot in bandwidth for no return. We even had system administrators installing labs of machines from our download servers which had become unacceptable and unsustainable.

As you can see, HPC:Factor is a community website that is NOT supported by advertising. All of the running costs are paid for by the the owners and in that your donations help.

If you use any of the following platforms (and have seen our patching guides for them) then you will know what the patch list looks like for the platform. If you would like to get hold of all of the downloads found in the patching guide as a single download (zip) for any of the following platforms or technologies then we ask you to make a sensible donation to help with our running costs.

Windows

Windows NT

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Microsoft Office

What languages do you have files in?

For Windows and Office, English only.

For Internet Explorer, we have the original installers available in virtually all of the languages that Microsoft release them in. Just let us know. For more on Internet Explorer options click here.

How big are they?

The IE redistributable files are usually around 60MB (compressed) to download, the operating system update sets can be anywhere from 25 MB through to 500 MB+ each.

For example the Windows 95 file set is 52.1 MB and its IE 5.5 SP2 redistributable is 75.6 MB, or 127.7 MB.

What do I get?

For Internet Explorer an inflatable .exe with the original Internet Explorer redistributable files plus the HPC:Factor Active Desktop component installed (for IE 5.5 SP2 under Windows 95 or IE 6.0 SP1 for NT 4.0).

For the operating systems and Microsoft Office, we can provide a zip file containing the updates stated on the patch list page.

What do I do?

Make a donation through PayPal by clicking on any of the 'donate' links found throughout the site, then drop an email to the HPC:Factor Webmaster.

What is a 'sensible' donation?

I can certainly tell you what a sensible donation is not: all of the people who donate £0.01 (1 pence) in the hope that our paypal donations is automated and that they can trick it. Believe it or not PayPal actually take your 1p and charge us... you guessed it, 1p for the privilege.

We do not have an automated donations system, if you are going to try and defraud it you are just wasting your own time (and PayPal have never sided with anyone who wanted their penny back).

Amusing anecdotes aside, some of these download sets are pretty large and people do not donate to download very often - internet hosts however do expect to be paid on a regular basis... and for over10 years that has been paid for by us. There are no adverts on this site, we do not data mine or sell our user information, we are not associated with app stores, sponsors or social networks. We have no revenue streams at all. It is a community site that is effectively run at a loss for the benefit of the community that it serves.

Your donation helps in that.

Please be aware however that for donations under £1.00, PayPal take much of it, so your donation never really gets to us. Consequently that is the absolute minimum that we will consider providing files for. If you are asking for a lot of download time and we don't think that your donation is 'sensible', we will let you know and if you don't want to compromise PayPal do allow for payment reversals.

So what is sensible? That is up to you.

I am looking for something in particular, can I make a request?

Sure! Drop the webmaster a line and we will see what we can do.

Am I entering into an agreement to buy from you?

No. We will try to honour all donations that request access to binary content in return for that donation. We realise that many of the people who want access to this content have nothing to do with our community, donations are simply a way that we can subsidise our own community.

Where does all of this come from?

The information & research on best practices has been gathered from Microsoft and also from 'The Archive', a personal project of HPC:Factor Editor Chris Tilley which contains extensive lists of Microsoft updates, add-ons and fixes.

HPC Factor is keen to stress that the information and recommendations that we make here are not necessarily the opinions of the Microsoft Corporation. It is aimed at end users and system administrators.
If you are in a company, please ensure to consult with your IT department before running any updates on your system.

Can I have a copy of the entire archive?

No, not over download. At the time of writing it weighs in at just under 100GB.
