Released in 2000, Windows code name Galileo (released only 8 months after the CE 2.12 Handhled PC release) was the first and only H/PC platform based on the new Windows CE 3.0 code. CE 3 was a significant step forward for the Windows CE operating system itself. However as a Platform HPC2000 didn't deliver significantly more than in the previous 2.11 and 2.12 releases. The integrated Pocket Office applications remained the same as in Handheld PC Pro, just with minor bug fixes.

By the release of Windows CE 3 large OEM's were at liberty to release HPC2000 on a range of device types and display types. The Clamshell 640x240 specification was to become the exception rather than the rule as it had been in previous releases.
