CESD-S-0023Applies To:
- Windows CE 2.0
- Windows CE Services 2.x
Overview:
Users of Windows CE Services 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 are unable to upgrade
to Microsoft ActiveSync 3.x because compatibility with Schedule+
7x was removed in ActiveSync 3.0.
Schedule+ is not compatible with Windows 2000 Professional.
Solution:
In order to Synchronise your Windows CE based Handheld PC you will
need to upgrade your Personal Information Manager to Microsoft Outlook
98 or above. Support for Schedule+ was removed in ActiveSync version
3.0 and above.
Microsoft Outlook can be purchased as a stand-alone product or
as part of Microsoft Office. HPC Factor recommends users purchase
the latest version of Outlook in order to benefit from the features
and security that it brings. Purchasing the full version of Outlook
ensures that you have technical support for a current and updated
product. Security flaws will be patched and your personal information
will remain secure.

process by double clicking the Setup.exe file.
If you encounter an error stating that the allotted installation
period for the program has expired. You must change the system date
via Date & Time in the Windows Control Panel to June 1998. Once
you have installed Outlook 98 you can safely restore the system
date to the correct value.
Before you first run Outlook 98:
Installing Outlook 98 may devolve some of your Operating System
components. It is important that you update your Internet Explorer
components after the installation of Outlook.
Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 is recommended for Windows 98, Millennium,
NT4.0, Windows 2000 & Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 recommended
for Windows 95.
The installation of Outlook Express 6 should be considered mandatory
as part of the Internet Explorer Upgrade as Outlook Express 4.0
is installed as part of Outlook 98. Outlook Express 4 is installed
as the Outlook 98 News Reader client. It is not no longer a secure
or supported program and as such should be upgraded to the latest
version.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 and 6.0 SP1 can be downloaded
from:
http://www.hpcfactor.com/downloads/
Depending on the installation options you choose Outlook 98 may
install Microsoft NetMeeting 2.11. NetMeeting is now a retired product
from Microsoft. Outlook 98 supports a certain level of integration
with NetMeeting. If you wish to keep this integration you should
uninstall NetMeeting 2.11 then download and install NetMeeting 3.01
SP2. Windows 2000 already has NetMeeting 3.01 installed and will
not be overwritten by Outlook 98.
NetMeeting 3.01 SP3 can be downloaded from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting/

There are three installation options for Outlook 98:

(HPC Factor Recommended Installation Option)
Outlook 98 is a retired Microsoft Product. It updates your computer
with out-of-date Operating System components, and is also not secured.
It is imperative that Outlook 98 users immediately update their
computers to ensure that they are as secure as possible.
This can be done in 3 steps.
| |
1. |
Windows Update:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Windows Update will upgrade the Operating Systems base security

Operating System enhancements that can be installed to improve
functionality with Office.

HPC Factor recommends the installation of Outlook over the use
of Schedule+ and Windows CE Services. However we would suggest that
purchasing the latest version of Outlook as a stand-alone product
or as part of the latest Office version, as this will be supported,
secure and is being updated.
Outlook will allow the import and conversion of Schedule+ files
to Outlook PST files. For more information see Outlook Help.

information.
It is provided as an alternative to established methods only and is not a recommended
procedure.
