Hello everyone! I'm new to the handheld PC world, and am having trouble finding a simple comparison between the 900 and 900c, so far all I can see is the firmware and O/S are different, are those the only differences? Also, is there a way to upgrade my HPC2000 mobilepro 900 to winCE.net?

It's identical hardware, different firmware (rom), and if you follow this thread you'll find out all about the wonderful work cmonex has done to make the firmware about 900% more useful. Enjoy

Wow, thanks guys! Informative links, albeit somewhat confusing for a novice like me.

I have a few questions. I bought a mobilepro 900 off ebay (http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/windowsce/wince30/) factory sealed and immaculate. Is there any way to turn it into a 900c OEM, software wise? Would that be a simple procedure? Or would I only be able to use "custom" roms? Also, how "easy" is it to brick my mobilepro? If I were to brick it, would there be someone I could take it to, to re-flash it? Or would I have to make the JTAG cable myself and fuddle about on my own?

I'm really enjoying this little thing, It's quite an experience! I'm eager to use it online!

as for flashing, roms, bricking, jtag, all information is available at my site at http://hpcmonex.net/nec900/nec900site.html

if you have more questions after reading the official roms/info part, let me know in this thread.

oh, also, I see you mention you bought the 900 still sealed in box - please provide me with its firmware information (in control panel NEC firmware information applet).

Howdy!

I've read it and it's a lot to take in. I feel like I'm in over my head! I'll re-read it and let it sink in a little more before asking any more questions.

Yeah! Sealed in the box! There were 5 of them put on auction sometime in the early morning or night prior, with a BIN of $105. They didn't last the morning.

ok, that's a common fw version if you want to upgrade it just go ahead.

you only really need to know one thing: update to bootloader version 4.10 then you can do shit if you like, except of course, flashing total crap to bootloader area

I'll have to pick up a CF card tomorrow since all I have is a 4GB right now.

"6. hardreset the 900c by removing all batteries and AC "

Mine's a 900, not 900c. Does this matter?

Alrighty, I just wanted to be 100% sure.

It has to be less than 1GB? I thought it just had to be fat16? Hmm...Wonder if there's somewhere I can get a 64MB cheap. :\
