Wayyyy cool!

You keep finding these toys at second-hand places. Wonder when I'll have that kind of luck here.

A CE device with a hard drive and an AMD processor (x86 architecture?) - that's a new one on me.

EDIT: I found a seller from your neighborhood who has a bunch of them for just a bit more than what you paid:

http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Model-50X15-Mini-Computers_W0QQitemZ300248751353QQihZ020QQcategoryZ36332QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

So tell us more about this device in case some of us want one.

It's a good candidate for an instant-on internet station that could rival my Skeyepad-based one. I'd love to see it with monitor, keybaord, Ethernet, WiFi, printer, USB flash driver, mic and earphone with messenger and so on in action.

Mine came with a mouse, key board, power cord, all other wires needed, and a USB Ethernet adapter. I hooked it up to my Dell LCD monitor, and it works great. I still have not had time to really play with it yet.

Not quite instant on though. takes about 5 to 15 seconds to full boot. It is however instant off.

Oh yeah, here is the link

Ah, it uses HD instead of SSD. 15s is still close to instant.

open it up install and SSD and use Standby (bet with an SSD it will burn virtually no power in standby) then you have instant on. (unless HDD spins down in Standby)

Do most HPC's not use Stanby to achive instant on?

I am going to get a new USB wifi adapter today to try out the wifi capabilities on the new machine. The only thing I don't like about this whole situation is that now I have to get a new monitor. And my wife doesn't like anything about the new computer...

My home PC died today So I hooked up this AMD PIC, and for the first time connected it to the internet. I am using it now... I can't believe how slow the IE is on this, and it is a lot slower surfing than I thought it would be. It is completely locked up, and I cannot install any software.

Oh well, at least it works until I get a new computer... I am looking to build a quad-core, and now I have an excuse to do so...

I noticed the new manufacturer (same people that make the cathena CE laptop) has tools etc. to install linux.

May be worth a try at some point.

Maybe I am just used to linux and Firefox... the computer freezes up every web page...

I can not install anything software... they really have it locked up.

My plan for this PIC was to use it as a guest room surfing machine.

Sorry for the complaint... I guess I am really used to a duel-core computer with 4gig of RAM...

This PIC is a big leap in the wrong direction for me... I think it would be better if I was not using it as a desktop replacement at the moment.
