Unlike CEGeek, I don't keep everything forever.

I was cleaning out my closet, throwing out old junk that is really useless. I actually found enough parts to put together a new handheld. Using the motherboard from a 780, case from a 790, keyboard from a 770, etc...I built a HPC2000 handheld. And it looks like it is brand new! Only thing missing is the flash rom that is on the 790 motherboard.

Anyways, as I was cleaning stuff out of the closet, I found this receipt....I wonder if I could sell it for what I paid for it.... And don't worry about the phone number or address as neither one is me any more...

Yup, I think all long-time users have one of those receipts. Mine is circa 2002 for about $850 (but payable in Slovenian tolars) for a European J720 purchased in Ljubljana. My wife took it in a stride for which I'm still grateful.

Wildest thing about the purchase is the salesman came to my house, dropped off the machine, took no money, and gave me only a bill that I had to pay at a bank within the next two weeks. No credit card info, nothing, he just wrote my name on the bill.

Funny how that doesn't work at Staples...

Unlike Rich Hawley, I've never bought an H/PC new. The most I've ever paid on one CE device was $220 for my Sigmarion III. (And I haven't kept everything. I've sold a few CE devices, and I'll happily sell more if I can find buyers. I've said many times that I only want to keep one or a few of each device, and I've picked up several in as-is lots that turned out to work just fine with a little work or, in many cases, none at all. )

16 880s!!!! That is downright evil, just not right in any sense...deviant and sick. I thought California law stated you could only own no more than 3 880s...

As I said, they came in lots pretty cheap. You yourself have encouraged these types of buys:

And remember when you picked up five 800s yourself?

Of course, I picked up a spare 790 ROM chip a long time ago and made the one I want to keep an "890."
