Thanks for clarifying situation about packages.....

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Best of luck!

Okay I’m a little drunk at the bar but I had a random thought : have you thought of getting a 720? It’s like tier I status for netbsd. Which is fantastic for an aged (like wine) device ?

Not sure if you're aiming message at me or ThenZero....

But if me, I have had several 720s and 728s over the years.....great devices....had Devuan on it, but sold mine as the display was a bit hard on my ol' eyes, as I had an eyesight issue last year....although in the past month or two my vision has improved quite a bit....weird....

790 is nice with the larger size display....which of course, means it also comes with a larger size keyboard, which is really nice to type on.....

If ThenZero and company can get newer version of NetBSD working which has packages available that would be the cat's pajamas.....

Glad to hear it!

Just coincidence, but I had a short chat with Kain on Reddit a few hours ago....he said you and him were trying to get new version of NetBSD working....
So, I'm counting on you guys!

Meanwhile, standing by, captain, awaiting something new to test....

Still larger display and arm processor and I think netbsd supported tier I? Double check me

Ok I guess an update on that is in order. Kain found what appears to be source packages and I found the corresponding distfiles for 5.2, which is the newest fully working version I've found. This weekend my plan is to set up a 5.2 build environment on my laptop and try to cross build some packages. I tried to cross build 5.2 packages from 9.3 but there were too many errors. I'll keep you posted.

Yes, thanks.....

According to table on this page:

http://wiki.netbsd.org/ports/hpcarm/

Only the boot column is checked, none of the other columns are.

Assume it means there would be a lot of work to get it working?

No worries, torch, I appreciate the suggestion and any other you may have....

That's one of the great things about hanging around here, is all the ideas and suggestions and support.

Best,

Mark

No! I couldn't install 5.2 on my laptop. After that, I tried using gxemul to set up a 5.2 hpcmips emulation on a 9.3 install which worked OK but was SUPER slow. The next thing I tried was setting up several installs (5.2, 7.0, 9.3) on a VirtualBox VM and doing the cross build on there. Still struggling with that- I'm starting to think there is some problem with the 5.2 build packages themselves because even on a straight 5.2 install I can't get pkgsrc to build there. I was thinking of incrementing the version by one and trying 5.2.1 which I believe is the last version before 6 but I haven't gotten around to it. I'm pretty burned out on it so taking a break.

p.s. Kain said he's going to try the gxemul approach on some badass 32 core server thing, so maybe he'll have more luck.
