I use the backup program in ROM, and as you say, the restore is not perfect--MUI needs reinstallation, so does RedGear, Alt-Tab, Hot Keys (though my actual key mappings are persistent after restore), and a couple of other small programs. It hadn't occurred to me that the System Update cab might need reinstallation--I just reinstalled, but didn't see any change.

I'm intrigued you can get Phatspell to run without RedGear, given that Phatspell is PPC.

Shoot, you're right! I'm sorry Jake - I left out a step. I also copied the aygshell #12 from cmonex aygshell collection into the phatspell directory. Not sure if that's the hou ming one or not. I guess give that a try! I will attach it to this post as well.

p.s. this also works on my sig that has redgear! with and without redgear enabled. Did you do the step in the redgear installation where you copy hou ming's aygshell over the _ygshell.dll or whatever it is that redgear installs?

Edit: this overwrite step was specifically recommended by the redgear author to make redgear work right on the sig...

Attaching the actual DLL.

If you download cmonex' aygshell collection, the newest Hou Ming one is #14. The one I posted up there is an older one of his.

That did it. I'm now getting the "trial expired" message. I wonder how I missed that aygshell memo.

Yay...sorta.

That's the first time I've seen those two words together. Thanx for the chuckle.

But what really cracked me up was on the description page of those aygshell stubs. The Web link was (of course) hpcfactor.com, but then under it was the standard message: "Not working? Try this link in the Wayback Machine."

Hundreds of years from now, when they unearth our culture, archeologists will wonder...just what was this mysterious HPC:Factor cult? Who were these zealous adherents? What drove their tireless leader, C:Amie, to summon the mysterious SCL and HCL spells year after year...? And how best to interpret the strange and mysterious "forum" with its mystical directions of arcane handwaving and "hex" editing?
