| Sanco, I have an Avic-s1 that doesn't have anything on the device anymore.
Would you still have the dump files from yours?
I am in desperate need as my avic is now a boat anchor.
Thanks a million. |

| Cmonex, would it be possible to get the romdump of the AVIC-S1?
Mine is dead, just the boot loader.
Thanks |

| as i said give me a couple of days when i get the free time..
you wouldnt be able to do anything with the romdump itself, it needs to be modified. |
|
|
|
| Well, if you have time to send it without modifications, I can try myself.
Thanks |

| I managed to get a hold of 2 dump files from a working AVIC-S1.
They are .IMG files. What could I use to explore them and see what I can do to try to revive my system.
Thanks |

| i dont think the fact they have an .img extension means anything. probably the dumper named them like that.
btw what did you use to dump them? bkondisk/bksamsung? just to make sure they are valid.
you can only use a hexeditor to look in them.
it is not trivial to convert them properly when it is fully undocumented. but, i did this before with some other PNA's, and now checking if this is similar enough to them. |
|
|
|
| I found them posted in a news group.
I'll see what I can find with the hex editor.
Looks promising as there are 2 files, 1 256kb and 1 close to 32MB

| then its probably the same i have. except i dont have a 256K file. just a 32mb
but give me the link to be sure. thanks.
it isnt enough to have a hexeditor, you need knowledge of the OS and the bootloader as well.
btw dont try flashing that 256K file please.
edit: ah sorry i too have the 256k. still, give me the link. and, again, dont flash that. it is invalid. Edited by cmonex 2007-07-12 5:42 PM

| OK, i fully identified the kernel and the OS parts and the xipchain. now i'm going to assume the bootloader accepts the same format as with other PNA's.
expect the flashable(?) image very soon. will give a download link here.
btw, the dump was a little strange, part of it had junk. (luckily, identifiable junk, part of the kernel got repeated in it.) so i'd like to see that other dump, again.

| uploading now. i'm not taking the responsibility for any problems but this has a good chance of working. unzip the zip package, put the two files on a sd memory card, insert that, enter bootloader mode, flash OS.
DO NOT flash a bootloader image! select OS image only! something like "wince by SD/MMC". that option is present in most bootloaders on these PNA's. and according to sanco's screenshots/documents, it is present on your avic s1 PNA's too.
p.s: or you can wait, until i see the other dump.
edit: here is the link! http://hpcmonex.net/roms/avics1img.zip
about 9MB.
(ehehe, this .../roms/ folder has many other rom goodies special rom images that cannot be found elsewhere )

| Dump files can be found here:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/211537/ 256kb
http://www.filefactory.com/file/fccf1b/ 23.75mb
http://www.filefactory.com/file/377484/ 418bytes log file
What other goodies do you have in your .../roms folder? the folder will not list the files.
Thanks for all your help
