Unusual Reset Side-effect

I've searched but cant find anything on this, but perhaps someone can shed some light on it. On the Jornada 680, if you press Reset+Left shift at boot up the screen will go red and start flickering. It looks kind of like the old HP ROM flash screen (although obviously thats not what it is) Is this useful for anything or just a bug? I cant find any link between this and the diagnostics screen.

tried it on my J680, same problem! Its strange to say the least, but perhaps it is something HP thought of that we don't know much about.

i do get somethign but not what chazco and wes do. no red screen, but it does flicker occasionally, then continues booting normally.
but my 680 is strange anyway. if i open some doc or txt not within word, but launching word along with the document, it will freeze. or just freezes later on saving something. i lost some writings of mine too this way.
so now testign the RAM in hp diag

anyway maybe i did it incorrectly? chazco tell me exactly what i need to do. thanks!

If nothing else, it was useful in bringing Wes back to the forum!

Hold down the left shift key, then press the reset button (while still holding down shift). The screen starts flickering red (usually).

Tried it on my 720, doesnt do anything, so only the 680 series.

Its a very unusual aspect, i dont have any idea what it does.

Update: If you do this starting with the Jornada switched off, it flashes red. If you do it with the Jornada switched on (as in showing CE) it flashs black. Even stranger...

I'm fine, except my love life which is otherwise (In other words, dates where girls don't turn up!).

Anyway, life gets hetic during the spring time and being on a Level 2 college course and constantly in an out of the house doesn't help.
Oh, don't try skyping at 2am either, I am paying for it now!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the beta testing is going fine (Although for NDA sakes, I can't disclose a lot, we had to push Auran a bit hard recently though), but, the aluminium Powerbook G4 is handling it quite well, 8 months old now, still in warrantly, better get that apple care pack soon!

Yeah, tell me about it. But being honest does have its side effects.
How many devices do you carry around with you now BTW? About 20?

/me carries 2, usually the BIG HPCs and the powerbook with spare battery (Sometimes Anna thrown in for good measure.)

Yes, only if I hold shift down, with the red screen, if you release the keys, it becomes an infinitive loop, but with the black screen, it stays until you remove your finger off the shift + reset key.
