A cookie is a small text file that’s stored on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. We use them to:

  • Remember your preferences
  • Indentify who you are to our log-on security system

There are different classes of cookies

First party cookies

These are set by the website you’re visiting (hpcfactor.com). And only that website can read them. In addition, a website might use a separate company to analyse how people are using their site. And this separate company will set their own cookie to do this.

We do not currently use any external companies to analyse site use on hpcfactor.com.

Third party cookies

These are set by someone other than the owner of the website you’re visiting.

Some hpcfactor.com web pages may also contain content from other sites like YouTube, which may set their own cookies. Pages that are protected from spammers through the implementation of Google reCAPTCHA may also cause the delivery of Google cookies into your browser. These cookies are provided by Google and once you have logged-on can be safely removed.

Also, if you Share a link to a HPC:Factor page, the service you share it on (e.g. Facebook) may set a cookie on your browser.

HPC:Factor has no control over third party cookies.

Which can be of several different types

We do not use any analytics services to generate analytical insights into our visitors. No advertising or tracking cookies will be placed on your computer by or for hpcfactor.com.

Session cookies

These are stored while you’re browsing. These become invalidated from your device when you close your browser e.g. Internet Explorer or Safari or after approximately 25 minutes of inactivity on hpcfactor.com. Session cookies are deleted from your computer after they become stale.

Persistent cookies

These are saved on your computer. So they don’t get deleted when you close your browser.

We use persistent cookies when we need to know who you are for more than one browsing session. For example, we use them to remember your forum login and preferences for the next time you visit. They do not have any scope outside of hpcfactor.com. You can safely delete them from your computer, however doing so will require you to sign-in to the forum once again if you are a member - at which time they will be reloaded.
