| More info is needed to solve your problem, but it's cleary on XP if you can surf from the hpc. Is there a firewall running on XP (built-in or other?) Have you tried dropping it and then connecting?
Are your workgroup names the same? Doublecheck both units.
Are you using DHCP? Both units exist on the same subnet?
hope this helps | |

| If PING isn't getting to your desktop, then as Wallythacker says there is most probably a firewall problem. An ICMP rule could be in affect.
The Todaynot error is not related, it means that there is a problem with the calendar / task alert scheduler.
Do remember that if you drop the firewall on your system you must disconnect from the internet first, otherwise you could wind up with a comprimised PC.

| Please do start a new thread on the other issue/
Have you setup your firewall to allow proper access? Or just turned it off?
| |
| I have specified my J720's IP address and the firewall lets it through.
Is that relatively safe do you think?

| Depends on the networks other traffic. If you have a small number of users don't worry, but if you have DHCP and about 25+ users then its not good!
Hope you understand,

| XP Home doesn't support 25 concurrent users anyway, so there isn't an issue, you should be OK so long as you have it configured correctly and keep it up to date. | |
