At max video rate (1000 kps) 4:3 aspect ratio, stereo, the file size is 175 Mb/hr. and the video quality is usable. At least better than looking at the seat back in front of me for several hours. I bet the limiting factor in image quality is the Jornada display.

Good guess. Make sure the framerate isn't too high. If you have GAPI installed, you can get decent quality at about 25 frames per second.

baltobernie, go to the Devices & Specifications database, and lookup the 728. At the bottom of the spec's list you will find the correct DVD Catalyst screen rating to use against the conversion process. This should pull the playback to a pretty close 100% of the devices capability (assuming that GAPI is installed).

This is what the screen rating is for

I found and installed GAPI ver. 3.04
I looked in the Devices & Specifications section of this website, and the Jornada 728 had "No Test Data" in the category of DVD Catalyst. So I went to the J720 info, and "1833216" is listed in the DVD Catalyst heading. What does this mean?

and what about this : http://www.memoryxflash.com/store/image.php?productid=16185
then we can use SD and reach higher than 32gb ?

Since the jornada is bunch of crap since it cannot do wireless wpa, our pcmcia is useless, then why not using for memory ?

You are right, how very odd. I have fixed the 728 screen rating.

The SR is a very simple mathematical formula which optimises the playback settings for DVD Catalyst's encoder to support the graphical capabilities of the device. It is designed only for older devices.

Patrick, CE3 cannot 'do' WPA, I believe that the linux dists can.

Linux means then no synchronized emails, contacts, and calendar with my Outlook in my office (microsoft outlook), isn't it ?
(active sync)

(edit:

Synchronisation in the same vein, yes. Word and excel have alternatives, but it depends upon how far you are willing to go,

sounds interesting. Indeed we can always find alternatives to office word and excel.

On the other hand, I d fear that the linux install would be pretty slow.
The jornada 720 is already a very slow machine (I have no memory card, just 32MB normal?)

what would you mean by "Synchronisation in the same vein, yes." ?

you know, this active sync is really the most amazing high quality thing I could see with PDA and windows. this one works very well.
and the thing is that document are tiny in the jornada. sound files tiny too.
The CE AGENDA is great with the Jornada.

The linux kernel would be certainly heavy for the 206MHz maybe ?

the only thing I would miss is this infrared connectino during the day which updates realtime the machine
and this even without power supply (8-10h)

...
I know linux, and to make something working can take pretty long ... not one day, but in years can be possible sometimes ...

edit: if linux, wpa wifi with my aironet 4800 ?

no memory card? that's why it is slow, you've put all your files in ram instead of the card, not advisable to do.

Be sure to submit that card to the HCL to add to the list of known compatible cards.
