I have a hp jornanda 680 with aWPC 11 3.0 pcmcia card. It communicates with the router (linksys). It does not go on the interent. How do I reconfigure IE to go on the internet via the wirless card instead of a modem or via the serial port?

thank

Tap on View > Options
Then tap the proxy server tab
Make sure the use proxy server is NOT ticked
Tap on the autodial tab
Make sure Autodial is not ticked.

It should pick up the network card by default and display webpages.

If you still have problems try disabling WEP on your router
and make sure the wireless driver in your 680 also has it set to disabled.

SET the SSID in the wireless driver to ANY

If none of this works it may be DHCP related - some drivers
on CE do not support dhcp very well and you may have to
set up a static ip on your Jornada

Basic Static settings would be something like this

IP Adress

Different Depending What router you connect to...

For Belkin, SMC, 3COM = 192.168.2.25
For Netgear = 192.168.0.25
For Linksys = 192.168.1.125

Subnet

Different Depending which Router you connect to
Mostly 255.255.255.0
Sometimes 255.0.0.0

Gateway

This would be the address you use to view router settings via a html browser

For Belkin, SMC, 3COM = 192.168.2.1
For Netgear = 192.168.0.1
For Linksys = 192.168.1.1

DNS IP address

DNS1 Should be the same address as the one you used for Gateway
DNS2 Should be one of your ISP's static DNS Server adresses.

Tnks niteman.... i have tried all of your suggestions and it doesn't work. I have sttrong signal strength to my wireless limksys. the linksys utility works fine. When i counfigured all the settings (non DHCP mode) it tokk a long time to come back and say it could not fine the web site, whereas if i had dhcp configured it came back right away.

So I am stumped any other ideas/

Thanks

Have you got servicepack 1 installed?

http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/patching/ce211/default.asp

Mine seems to have it installed as my internet explorer version is 3.0.1
pocket word, excel, powerpoint and access 3.0.1

Also Download the Handheld PC Pro 128-bit SSL Update

http://www.hpcfactor.com/downloads/

make sure you have no other connections set up
look in start > Programs > Communication > Remote Networking

Also try compatible drivers for your card
from other manufacturers..

I believe the Linksys WPC11 uses an Intersil Prism2 chipset

Here is a good list of wireless network cards and their chipsets

http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-questions/2005-January/070105.html

If the Linksys drivers do not allow you to access the net then try
a driver for another card with the same chipset as yours..
