I have a HP Jornada 680. I have installed all the freely available DLLs I could find on HP's site & on other HPC enthusiasts Windows CE pages. I have also updated the HP Jornada 680's firmware using the updater I found on HP's FTP server. I'm now trying to install an application called DBCleaner which cleans out the HPC's database file after uninstalling unneeded applications. I installed some Microsoft & HP apps which I had to uninstall later to free up more RAM to install apps into. When I try to run DBCleaner I get a error message about the application not being able to find some files it needs. Where do I get these files from so I can clean out my HPC's database file?

logically thinking, just reinstall dbcleaner or tell us if it says what is missing.

i hope you didn't clutter your device with ARM dll's.

No. I made sure all of the DLLs I installed into the \Windows folder were SH3 DLLs. The error message I'm getting is Cannot find 'DBCleaner' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available. It makes me think I'm missing a necessary SH3 specific DLL or that more of my DLLs need to be updated.

I'm guessing I'm just missing some libraries DBCleaner depends on. I installed all the SH3 DLLs available from this site plus some from the MS Download Center. I also installed AGYSHELL.dll, toolhelp.dll & GX.dll for SH3031. I also installed the .NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 too.

What other libraries does DBCleaner require that may be missing? I tried Googling for DBCleaner's system requirements or even a install how-to but there's no documentation I could find for it.

if you would post the dbcleaner exe i'd be able to tell you.

p.s.: .net cf 1.0 is probably just a waste of space on your device.

Unless we can figure out how to get Stefanov's version for CE 2.xx to work with some existing .NET CF apps.

The name of the file is dbclean1310.exe. That's the name of the file I used to install DBCleaner onto my Jornada 680. I can't provide a direct link to a download of the file because I found it on a WinGear WinCE Utilities 2002 CD-ROM. I'm not sure if it's even still available for download online either.

I have that CD, so I checked the file myself. (I'm going to upload it to mscdex' HPC Software Repository later on when I have some time.) I viewed it in a hexeditor, and found a call for mfcce211.dll. I don't recall whether that's natively on the 680, but you can get it here:

http://www.hpcfactor.com/developer/

Look for the links for the MFC Global Redistributable.

Dunno if that'll solve the problem, but it may help.

(You definitely don't need aygshell.dll or gx.dll or any of the other things you mentioned above.)

I think I already installed the MFC Global Redistributable. This HPC was not fully functional either when it was first given to me. I had to replace the built-in keyboard due to the red soft reset button being non-functional. I'm also trying to locate the 32 MB RAM Upgrade for it too. I found one upgrade but I had to send it back since it was localized in Japanese.

Check to see if mfcce211.dll is in \Windows on the 680.

I just checked the Jornada 680 using Window's CE's Explorer. Mfcce211.dll is present in the \Windows folder. Could the file have gotten corrupted somehow? Is there software capable of repairing corrupt files or defragmenting a HPC's file system?

Doubtful that it's been corrupted, but there's an easy way to find out. Go into \Windows and try deleting mfcce211.dll, and then soft reset the device. If it doesn't let you delete it, then it's in ROM and can't be corrupted. If it does delete but returns after the soft reset, then that means that there was a version of mfcce211.dll in ROM, and it was "overwritten" (shadowed actually) by a different (possibly corrupted) version installed with another application. (In this case, you've just brought the ROM version back into the foreground, and the problem should be solved if indeed a corrupted version had been installed.) If mfcce211.dll doesn't return after the soft reset, then it was not originally in ROM, meaning that corruption of the file is a possibility. In this last case, re-copying mfcce211.dll from the above-linked download package should give you a clean version of mfcce211.dll. (Have I succeeded in confusing you yet? )

There appears to be a mfcce211.dll file present in the HP Jornada 680's ROM. I'm going to try to copy the newer version from the MFC download into the \Windows folder.

It sounds now like that may not be the problem. Since this is an H/PC Pro application, the native mfcce211.dll on the 680 should be sufficient. There may be another file that it requires that doesn't show as a text name in the code string. I'll check this app out later on my Phenom Express when I have some time.
