Another easy way to get Linux if you have a Windoze machine is to install 'andLinux'.
andLinux installs and runs from within Windows, no need to deal with usual Linux install stuff....think of it as just installing a Windows application and then running it the same way you would any other Windows app, pretty amazing when you think about it....
I've installed it and it's quite cool to have normal Windows apps running side-by-side with a Linux app running in another window on the screen...
Basically, it's Ubuntu system combined with CoLinux

FWIW, I think this is easy and fun way to get Linux running especially for Linux noobs....however, I still prefer running a separate Debian install for various reasons....but no reason that you can't do both!
