You can use the ROM image from a Mio C210, which is the same ROM image.

Well , it's true .. this image work on H610 , but after installing , you will have an H610 who will work like an C210 . When you will flash this image , use option "WINCE by SD/MMC" from "FlashRom Upgrade" menu . And that's not all ... there will be some changes after that .
Every software you will use on this device after flashing C210 image , it's will tell you that you have an C210 not an H610 . So be carefull with settings . Anyway , for the moment , there is no image for MioH610 . So , you don't have any other choice .

It is possible to make rom image from H610?

Well , using an external dumping software ... i supose the answer is yes .
Have you an H610 in good working conditions ? If it's so ... then take a look HERE .
Look for the section : " to dump nand flash " . Let us know if you need something . I have already prepared a modified ( i mean adapted to run directly on a locked device ... just run'it from an SD card ) version of "bkondisk" , who work on Mio H610 and it's make a ROM flash backup directly on SDcard . I you need this , let me know .

I have an h610 I installed Miopocket 3.0 r56 and somehow I immediately lost the use of the external speaker while the ear-jack works perfectly.

I'm thinking the ROM needs to be flashed back to the original.

I have another h610 which has not been altered and works like factory settings or untouched.
I will make an image with from the new unit if you give me a step by step procedure to follow. Then I will send post it onto this site for everyone to make use.

How does one send an img file back into the broken h610?

Why don't you use DiskRw.exe to dump your rom image, it's superior to bkondisk, if you can access your
windows CE explorer to run it.
Here is link to the software and how to do the dump:
http://www.gpsmodding.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=aa6b07bdfffc0e7bf33dd83c0b645f52&topic=1886.0
I'm not sure about your mio, but the C series have got SMFlash, with the rom image, it is an extra storage
about 23MB, if you can create dump of this SMFlash and upload it somewhere, then I can have a look at it, for
you, when you use DiskRW you can select the storage, you want to dump, from the drop down list.
Don't forget to zip it before uploading, it will give you half of the original size.

P.S.
I downloaded your image and it looks like it's only kernel, the whole OS is missing:

But DiskRW.exe is failing to run on my h610. Crossing my fingers didn't seem to help.

Hi jrsrj1,
did you try the other software included in this package?
There is another software on hpcmonex.net, it's called backsamsung or something like that,
you could try using that one, you may need to copy itsutils.dll from itsutils folder to your windows CE folder,
you could find this package in here:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/tools.html
Download the latest one, just scroll down the page.
On the other hand you may try this package of diskrw, but make sure the whole folder
is on your SD card and make sure you've got toolhelp.dll in your windows CE folder
http://www.4shared.com/file/134354901/9ef633/DiskRW.html
Why, do you think you need to reload the ROM, it looks to me, like the registry settings were changed by MIO pocket,
soft resetting your device should fix the problem, if not there should be an option in your bootloader to reset registry
to factory settings.
If you've got backup of your registry, then just compare the old and new one and change it.
Reloading OS image sometimes doesn't help, I've bricked my gps, by loading wrong OS, after restoring everything was like before
bricking, with MIO Simple Unlock, instead of the original interface.

Thanks ojejoe,

Atlas3_NR.exe and YFbackup.exe appeared to be operational on the h610, but not the DiskRW.exe.
Even after placing a copy of itsutils.dll into the windows CE folder. toolhelp.dll already existed there, but is a few k larger than the one at http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/toolhelp.dll
I tried the DiskRW.html link above and the DiskRW.exe behaves the same way... a blank screen with only an "Option" button on the lower left of the portrait screen... I rotated the screen to landscape and ran DiskRW.exe with the same result. DiskRW.exe does not give an error screen, it just blanks out the screen with no operating functions. Maybe I can change the screen resolution and then use it...

bksamsung.exe fails to even start running.

Reset button and reset using (5 second power button hold) does not reset the external speaker. Everything else with this h610 is similar to the working h610

The "broken" h610 has lost its external speaker which appears not to be a hardware problem.
I used CEregEditer to backup the registry from the working h610 and imported them into the silent h610: this didn't fix it. I located some sound function withing the registry but they did not start the external speaker.

Here are the registry backups from CERegEditor from the working h610:
http://sites.google.com/site/jrsrj1/HkeyUsernew.cereg
http://sites.google.com/site/jrsrj1/HkeyRootnew.cereg
http://sites.google.com/site/jrsrj1/HkeyMachineNew.cereg
Importing these into the broken h610 does not start the external speaker.

So, I figure it is not a registry switch that has turned off the external speaker...
I suppose it may be the case that the registry get reset back to broken speaker values after hard reset.

I have read here that users have used a c210 image to get their h610 working in landscape. I wonder if their external speaker worked after that import.

You mentioned a bootloader and that is probably the answer to this issue... All I need to do is locate one. I hear your cautions. Last thing I want to do is brick the poor thing.
