Hi Folks,

Does anybody know if programs run faster if installed on the CF vs the "default" Main Memory?

Thanks!

I've not found anything that runs faster from RAM storage.

But on my 900c TextMaker starts up noticeably faster when loaded from RAM instead of from CF.

Actual "RAM" execution will always be faster because of the significantly faster bus speeds, however when it comes down to devices with internal PSA's the execution times are going to fall off towards CF levels.

On Sig3 it runs faster and faster the more I have relocated to SD card.

Less there is in internal ram the faster it gets. I guess there is no hard and fast rule though and it will likely be diffrent on a device by device basis.

Specifically, I am interested in performance on a Jornada 720. Would a 728 with 2x the RAM necessarily make programs run faster? The reason I ask is a friend has a TI994A emulation running on her J720 and it works, but is sloooooow, so seeking some sort of speedup relief for her.

heh, execution always happens in RAM, CF can't XIP.

yes more RAM helps a lot.

Well, that's the inverse of the original question. I thought you meant, does the app's install location (Storage Card v RAM) in and of itself make a difference in execution speed? Sure, more free RAM helps, since it allows more space in RAM to use as program memory.
