Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone tried upgrading a CE2.11 HPC to CE3.0 by simply copying the files over?

Caveat emptor:

If the CPU are identical for both builds, can it be done?

ok, ok, before someone shoot me for copyright and licensing issues, I just want to know if its possible. If it is, then 780 users could potentially copy the \windows files from a 790 ROM chip to the RAM in the 780. Granted, this means that it will be wiped out on hard-reset, it still means that it can be done.

Of cos, it also implies that it will not work (that smoothly?) between different HPC families even if the CPU is the same ... eg, Vadem Clio 1050 running HPCPro prob cannot run the MIP files from a 790 right?

sorry but there wouldn't be enough ram left to run programs, etc... even if it worked... so, no point in trying that.

edit: though i don't know how many files need to be copied - maybe not all of the rom.

On top of cmonex's point... It wont work.
First off you wouldn't be able to get the data out of ROM to put onto the device in the first place.
Secondly there would be the CE3 boot sector and boot code data as well as registry which would be missing.
Lastly the system databases (the system ones not the PIM ones)
