In a building the size of a football stadium, engineers have assembled the framework for a network of 192 laser beams, each traveling 1,000 feet to converge simultaneously on a target the size of a pencil eraser.

The goal is to create unimaginable heat — 180 million degrees Farenheit — and intense pressure from all directions on a BB-size hydrogen fuel pellet, compressing it to one-thirtieth of its size.
if anything sounds like Death Star, this is it!
Why can't they build TIE-fighters first! grrr ... or even X-Wing? ok, maybe they should work on anti-grav levitators first? |

| That sucks you have to wait so long. It, in my humble opinion the movie is great! But since you get all of the cool phones and electronic devices over there first, I guess it is only fair. I was watching the TV show “The Science Of Star Wars” on the discovery channel and there are a lot of really cool things coming. |

You mean like they are really building the TIE-Fighter and X-Wing Fighter?
... ok, I know for one that Ion-propulsion systems for space vehicles are either possible or in late-design phase. Only thing is to have a viable power source ... Guess they still need to work on the cold-fission reactor thingie! |

what has this to do with the death star?
well ... last I check, which is like a long time ago, in a country far far away ... death star also sports a multi laser-beam array that focus on a single point ... except that for DS, it converges into a single ultra beam that can destroy planets! |

| The ability to destroy planets is insignificant next to the power of the force. |

let's just say that a long time ago, in a country far far away ... ... someone was playing X-Wing Fighter so much that when he did a presentation for class in high school, he presented "XWing Fighter"! |

... but an X-Wing Fighter flying around is welcomed anyday! |
