it uses wap. it really would have been handy if someone had mentioned that fact before i bought this card while i was asking the earlier questions about it but nevermind. how would i check if i can connect though to be sure?

The first thing I would do would be to find an open wifi signal somewhere (library, coffee shop, restuarant, etc) and insure you can get online first...then I would tackle the security issue.

i did temporarily turn off the wpa on the router but still don't know if i have to do anything to connect. you know, a setting or something. even with the wpa off it wont connect if i go into internet explorer

The least you should do is enter the SSID of your network into your wifi settings. If WEP is enabled, you also have to enter both keys.

I'm not familiar with your card but I'd open Control Panel and look for a WiFi or 3com icon.

there is airconnect settings. when clicked it shows 3com airconnect wlan easy setup, the first screen says wireless lan service area which is defaulted to 101. when clickng advanced there is wireless client(???) tab, power tab, encryption tab and wlan adapter tab which has a diversity option. none of this makes sense to me.

Maybe replace the 101 with your network ssid and then reset your HPC?

sorry guys and thanks for all the help but i have given up on it, i think i will go for something like the jornada 728 or an asus eee pc.

is there anywhere i can sell this to like minded people or just ebay?
