Hello

I just bought a Jornada 728 as a graduation gift, I also got a great case for it. I have been trying to find some answers on questions I have, this site has been the best so far. So i was wondering if you guys/gals could help me answer a few. First will Age of empires, and simcity 200 work scotch free on these devices or do i have to edit them abit. Second warfare incorparated says it will work on PPC 2002 that's the same CE as HPC 200 so will it work? Next some hardware What would be the best PC card WIFI adapter(preferably with a attena plug in, i;m in a basement two storis away from my router and i have a 5dbi antenna for my dead PC), will a USB mouse work on the Jornada 728 with an adapter to the serial port on the Jornada, and last but not least what is the best most compatible 8gb compactflash card you guys own or heard of.

Thanks in advance,
Sean728

Try using "Search the Forums" with the keywords "Age of Empires." I just did this and a ton of threads popped up. Some of those threads provide clues. Getting Age of Empires working has been rather a hit-and-miss/trial-and-error operation; however, SimCity 2000 will definitely work.

Things you'll need:

1) aygshell.dll (there are several versions; again it's trial and error): go to http://www.hpcmonex.net/izemize.htm and click on the link "aygshells"

2) GAPI for HPCs: http://www.wincesoft.de/ (some programs install their own versions of gx.dll; if the app displays strangely or not at all after installation, try deleting gx.dll from the program's folder so that GAPI for HPCs will be used instead)

3) a utility to allow you to move or resize the program's window: WinWatch ( http://www.damnsoft.org/ ; free) or Nyditot Virtual Display ( http://www.nyditot.com/ ; $20 but has much more capability for manipulating the display).

Other things may be needed with some programs (eg, the Pocket PC version of mfcce300.dll, etc); there is a utility to help you find out: Executability Check (also available at http://www.hpcmonex.net/izemize.htm ).

A USB mouse will not work; however, ShadowMaster of damnsoft.org has developed a serial mouse driver that will work with the 720/728 serial cable and a null modem adapter. Check the link for WinWatch above again and look for MouSer.

Don't worry about specific CF card brands - just about any card will work fine.

As for WiFi cards, I've found Agere-based cards like the ORiNOCO or WaveLAN series to work well, and they're easy to use. They're also easy to find on eBay for about $10.

Wifi cards

How about the linksys WPC11, will it work okay, I know it's B and doesn't meet my antenna requirment, but it's like $20 new on Amazon. But if any of the ones you suggested are G 54 then I will look at those instead

thanks for the help

You can't use G cards, I'm afraid - they're not supported in Handheld PC 2000. The WPC11 is supposed to work, but lots of people have had problems getting it to work.

If your router only supports G mode, you won't be able to connect - you'll need either B mode only or combined B/G mode.
